Man is never as tall as when he is upon his
knees (John XXIII).
Man is the crown of God’s
creation and God granted him life and freedom. Man abused his
freedom and according to the book of Genesis he took fruit from the
tree of good and evil. Ashamed because he broke God’s only
commandment, he leaves paradise, and in this new situation God
forbids him to partake in the fruit of eternal life.
Since then the human being
has made progress in everything. Man has found ways to create and
destroy as yet unknown to living beings. He does not recognize that
any boundaries exist; often he does not respect natural laws, and
wants to be Creator of other human beings.
Our medical profession often
participates in all of this, and when a human being is most
vulnerable we use him for scientific experiments, killing him in the
process. Our profession has assumed the right to decide who will die
and how long someone will live. In all of this we are taking into
our own hands that which is only God’s right to decide about human
life.
Croatian catholic doctors
would like that the 12th of December on the feast of Our Lady of
Guadalupe annually be a day of prayer when we kneel and recognize
the existence of the unborn. We would like to recognize and gain a
deeper awareness of the sanctity of human life from conception, the
time when eternity begins. We humbly turn in prayer to the Mother of
God, the Temple of God, to give us strength and knowledge about how
to protect human life.
We pray that every day the
number of doctors whose moral strength is greater and stronger than
the capability to destroy.
We would also like to pray
for the intercession of all of God’s angels because they are close
to Him. They reveal God’s greatness and His goodness. On that day
let us endeavor to experience the presence of the angels, which is
as real as the reality of the destruction of thousands of newly
created human lives witnessed by hundreds of doctors on a daily
basis.
Let’s become aware of the
reality of the unborn child, and understanding that from the moment
of conception a unique human life has come into existence that will
never cease. This newly conceived child is eternity. Let us pay
homage to this secret of God and bend our knee in prayer in a spirit
of repentance without judging anybody and recognize the existence of
the unborn children.
Let us gather together in
humble prayer every December. Let us try to involve as many health
workers as we can in this act of prayer led by the Croatian Society
of Catholic Doctors.
We
would like to invite all the members of the Croatian Society of
Catholic Doctors, and all other Societies of Catholic Doctors in the
world, to join us in prayer for the unborn on this day.
On
behalf of all the committee members of the
Croatian Society of Catholic Doctors
